Det gjelder Europa

Personal account of moral rearmament campaign visit to post-war Germany in October 1948
In the autumn of 1948, the author traveled to Germany as a guest of the Moral Re-Armament campaign, witnessing firsthand the nation's critical crossroads in the years following World War II. Rather than attempting a comprehensive portrait of postwar Germany, this account focuses on personal observations and the ideological struggle the author believes represents the most promising factor in the contemporary situation. Germany stands not merely as a geographical center of Europe or a battleground for competing world powers, but as the crucial arena where ideologies clash for the hearts and minds of its youth and workers. The nation's choice of ideals and political direction will profoundly shape Europe's future destiny. While others have documented Germany's physical devastation, black markets, and economic recovery, the author argues that the ideological war unfolding across the country is the most consequential development—one that cannot remain a matter of indifference to outsiders. By examining the moral and spiritual currents animating German society, this work invites readers to look beyond historical grievances and contemporary sentiments to understand what is ultimately at stake for the entire continent.
