At the suggestion of former MP, Sir Jim Lester, IofC has made a submission to the House of Commons Select Committee on International Development on ‘Conflict and Development: peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction’. The submission includes an introduction to IofC’s approach, and examples from work being done in Sierra Leone, Lebanon and among Somalis. It draws the Committee’s attention to the importance of: the potential that a change of heart in individuals can have in creating an atmosphere favourable to reconciliation ‘Track II diplomacy’—the role that motivated individuals and local and international NGOs can have in rebuilding relationships between communities and even between nations the general acceptance of moral and spiritual values inherent in the main faith traditions in laying foundations for reconstruction.
