Bengt Jonzon

Swedish bishop and poet

Bengt Ivar Johannes Jonzon, born February 19, 1888 in Bollnäs, died August 27, 1967 in Stockholm. He was Priest in Stockholm and then Bishop of the Diocese of Luleå from 1937 to 1956. He was the son of BG Jonzon and the brother of Bror Jonzon.

Jonzon was ordained in Uppsala in 1915 and graduated with a Licentiate in Theology from Uppsala University in 1920. He served as Youth Secretary on the Church of Sweden Diakonia Board from 1918, 1st Secretary in 1920, commissioner in Gävle in 1924 and was a member of church meetings in 1926, 1929 and 1931.

He belonged to the Youth Church Movement. He is depicted in New Psalms 1921 and the 1937 hymnal as the author of a work.

Bengt Jonzon is buried in Uppsala Old Cemetery.
