Environmental impact of For a new world

We are aware that the Internet has become a significant consumer of electricity, globally.

Therefore, we have run our website through WebPageTest's Carbon Control feature, which measures the CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalents, estimated) footprint of a website using the Sustainable Web Design Model .

The results are:

  • The for a new world website consumes about 40% less CO2e than the average website today (May 2024) thanks to minimising the page load and using only "green" providers for our services. Source: 2022 WEB ALMANAC and
  • The sum Co2e of all our 58.000 total visits in the past 12 months (May 2023-May 2024) is roughly equivalent to driving an avarage (American) car for 80km (source: US EPA, 2023). Considering another source that uses unique page views and multiplying that number by our 98.000 total unique page views in the same 12 month period also results in about 80km of driving that same, American, average car. (Side note: Sweden has the lowest average Co2 emissions for new cars in the world; if the "average American car" was like all new Swedish cars, the number above would be reduced by about about 85%)
