Heart of Effective Leadership European Training: Workshop in Caux

A 3-day European workshop on the importance of linking ethics and competitiveness in business

HEL European Training, 19 - 21 September 2014, Caux:

Linking ethics and competitiveness in business or the importance of the person in the leader

“I learnt about strengthening my inner self and that good leadership requires trust and integrity. Everything you do should have a purpose - a greater good.”

No more than three days immersed in the Swiss mountains were necessary to discover and explore what is at the heart of effective leadership. Business leaders, consultants, professors and a range of other participants interested in the topic of leadership came together for a deeply inspiring journey guided by joint faculty from IofC India and the UK. A combination of presentations, personal and often intimate stories, songs, and silent walks offered participants different ways to explore how they can discover their inner leader, their internal CEO!

What is leadership? How to enact it effectively? The business world today offers many dilemmas and the quest for competency development never ends. At the heart of this is the character of the person, shaped by what HEL calls the leader’s inner governance, made up of self-awareness, values, and purpose. Dr Feena May gave the opening keynote and suggested that “being a leader is being willing to invest in this journey of self-reflection.

This shift from doing to being, and also from head to heart are two of the key parts of HEL which challenge leaders to look beyond their success or the success of their organisations, to the well-being of the people in their organisations, in their country, and ultimately in the world today… and this starts in each one of us.
