Aad was educated at the Utrecht city gymnasium, 1940-1946. He studied Dutch law at Leiden University, 1946-1950, completed a master's degree, 1950-1952, completed military service as 1st reserve lieutenant Royal Marechaussee. In 1952 he became a full time worker for Moral Re-armament/Initiatives of Change. In 1955 he contracted polio while in Nigeria, and was permanently disabled thereafter. He was a board member of the Dutch Moral Re-Armament Foundation Moral Re-Armament for 50 years and a board member of the Caux Foundation from 1974-1994. He served as a Municipal Councillor on the Utrecht PvdA with two interruptions from 1977-1997, a member of the church council Wilhelminakerk PGU Utrecht, and a member of the WMO Client council Utrecht 2007-2022.
