Peter Everington

After deep change on meeting MRA, Peter Everington switched to Arabic for his last year at Cambridge, and then taught English for eight years with the Sudan Ministry of Education.  In more than twenty return visits since, he has kept up support for the peacemakers of North and South.

His wife Jean and he gave up salaried work as teachers for full-time availability with MRA.  They based in Iran for the first two years of their marriage. Then from UK for twenty-five years they helped steer a programme of student exchange visits with Arab universities. This took them to Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, as well as Sudan.  One of their continuing aims is to help Christians in the west work out a comradeship with Muslims based on our shared beliefs.

Peter was awarded Sudan’s highest decoration for services to education.  In 2017 a Khartoum company published his reflections on post-Independence Sudan. ‘Watch your step, Khawaja’ has 200 photos and an Arabic translation.
