Debora Senn-Kupferschmid was born on 13 June 1942.

After training as a teacher in Thun and teaching for three years in Stechelberg, she gave ten years of her life, with complete selflessness, to the work of Moral Re-Armament (now Initiatives of Change) in Caux and elsewhere.

Many people got to know Debora in the kitchen at Caux, where she led her team with great warmth and care, and where she became an excellent cook. On a last visit to her at the Lindenhof Hospital, on her birthday, she and Ruth Dallas-Mathys shared memories of the long hours they had spent together studying recipes. She never did anything by halves.

The Jura question was close to her heart. At a meeting in Hilterfingen, at the Kupferschmid home, between Bernese from the Oberland and Jura separatists, Debora gently helped the Bernese to understand what mattered to the people of the Jura.

In her free time Debora played the violin, and so, after her years in Caux, music became her vocation.

The Freiburger Nachrichten reported that after qualifying as a violin teacher at the age of 40, she moved to Murten/Morat in 1983, where she spent the happiest years of her life with Walter Senn (…). Playing music together meant a great deal to her, and in 1990 she founded an orchestra with her pupils, the "archini murtensi". The success of this ensemble in and around Murten led her on to ever greater achievements. In autumn 2005 the Elsner Foundation awarded Debora its culture prize for her outstanding commitment to music (…). She accepted it with joy and gratitude.

For many people Debora was a remarkable, radiant and warm-hearted woman. Her personality left a lasting mark on them, and not only in music.

She died on 7 July 2006.
